Universe separated into 2 parts

The universe can be separated into two parts. Part 1 could be described as the unchanging laws of science. Part 2 can be described as a combination of luck, God, destiny, and magic. There is no conflict between parts 1 and 2; Science and religion.

The conflict can more rightfully be described between religion and luck. Do things just happen or is there a higher power in charge of all.

Quantum mechanics tells us that there are only probabilities. An observer is necessary to collapse fields of possibilities into certainty. What is unclear is the extent to which the observer or consciousness influences the outcome rather than just causing the collapse.

The possibility that consciousness can influence outcomes is what gives part 2 so much potential. It allows miracles to be possible without conflicting with science. It does not make miracles necessary only possible.

The necessity of the observer does argue for the necessity of some kind of universal consciousness.

(See the following as part of my 6/25/11 post: Science, Religion, and the multiverse )

“However there is no reason that there has to be only one reality. There may be multiple realities in what science has come to refer to as the multiverse.

Different outcomes branch off into different universes or realities. There is no reason that realities need to be either completely separate from each other or completely the same. Rather there may be a kind of co-mingling where by realities intersect at many places and part at others.

At church, realities divulge allowing each religion to be true for its believers. Conversely non-believers are not affected by the religions of others having their own realities to insulate them from vengeful gods not theirs.”
