Reality Is an approximate personal world view drawn from limited senses with limited processing/storage. The human brain is too limited to know an actual reality as opposed to an approximate one. Our senses are limited to certain ranges.

While realities may overlap, no two are exactly the same. Similar brain structure and input keeps the common overlap large enough to allow for communication and fellowship.

If reality is not the same for all why should god and religion be the same for all? Short answer, they cannot. However, There is nothing to stop each of us from including god in our personal reality

All that was effects all that will be. There is a tendency in the universe towards sameness or precedent. Could the future also be in the mix for an effect on the now?

Therefore what we are or become continues to affect the universe after we are gone. Could that be the basis of the concept of "the soul"? A remaining influence apart from our physical bodies. We each may have a unique pattern that continues after death. This could be created from our memory without necessarily including the details. Kind of a summation of what we have been or become.

The soul can be defined as our continued influence beyond death. Of course this could differ in different realities.

Universal Influences

Everything that ever was creates an influence that propagates forward in time. The first time anything new is created the greater chance if will happen again. One example is new structures of crystal.

This should not be confused with repetitions of the same preexisting equal variables. You can not predict the next outcome of a flipped coin by the history of heads vs tails. However, the first time life evolves stereo vision with 2 eyes make more likely that future life will develop it as well.

This effect may be the result of quantum entanglement of the entire universe once part of the same singularity.

Every person who has ever lived has different brain structure which is modified thru life due to memory and experience. This whole package is propagated forward after death and may be the basis for what we call the sole.

When a new person is born the closest matching pattern may attach. However, during growth and experience the match might change or be a synthesis of more than one preexisting influence. This attachment to a preexisting influence or influences may allow for the preservation of the essence of being for a person destroyed and reconstituted, such as in teleportation. It could also be the basis for life after death and reincarnation.

No Gold for Alchemy

Alchemists of the world. I bring you bad news. Gold can not be made on earth. I t can only be me in the heart of a large dying star.

The Sun is a star that we are awfully close to. It is only medium size, not even big enough for gold making. All the gold there is came from larger stars far away. The biggest stars die in a massive explosion and spread their contents far abroad.

When stars are born, they are only light and simple gas. Then gravity goes to work. Gravity is the force that pulls all things together. You cannot jump off the earth because gravity is pulling you and the earth together.

The more stuff there is the stronger the gravity. It not only pulls things together, but it keeps getting stronger the closer things are. This strengthening never stops, and things are pushed together harder and harder, until they are the closest, they can be.

Simple gas is eventually pulled together so hard that it is squeezed into something else. First it is squeezed into a slightly harder gas. Energy and Mass can be turned into each other. The next slightly harder gas does not come out even. As much of the simple gas that can be is changed becoming slightly harder gas, but in the process, something is left over.  It all does not fit. This something left over is energy.

This energy pushes out the star and acts as a balance keeping gravity from squeezing the star flat. The manufacturing process is called fusion. The process keeps moving up the ladder, making denser gas at every turn with continued energy release. Gravity pulls in. Energy pushes out.

Eventually all the gas will have been converted into something solid. At this point the star has run out of its primary building material and is starting to die. It starts to eat itself, solids into denser solids, and up the complexity ladder. (The complexity latter is shown in the periodic table.)

Each atom has electrons and protons orbiting around a neutron. It only looks solid to things much bigger, such as us. Atoms are exceedingly small compared to us but there are a lot of them together.

The more complex solids have an increasing number of protons and electron. (The periodic table lists the number of protons and electrons in each atom.)

The star can only go so far eating itself thru fusion. The fusion process continues up thru iron but can go no further. Fusing anything beyond iron requires more energy than is available and the star starts to collapse. The way it ends depends on the size of the star. If the star is bigger than three times the size of our sun, it starts to explode. During the explosion additional energy is released and fusion continues. Only then can the star make the most complex matter, such as gold. The explosion is called a super nova and is strong enough to spread the star stuff far across  space.

Stars that are bigger than 1.5 times the sun, but less than 3 times, become Neutron stars. This is made of atoms smashed flat so that they are all neutrons with nothing in orbit. The open space is smashed out and it ends up being superdense.

If the dying star was more than 3 times the size of the sun it becomes a black hole. This is something so dense that not even light can escape.

Stars the size of our sun, and up 1.5 times, become red giants. This is much larger but dead and hollow. When our sun becomes a red giant, the inner solar system will be swallowed up.

Science and Religion

Most people learn their religion on their mothers knee. Would a caring God exclude anyone of pure heart, just because of the accident of birth? Should not  all religions be true to the people that believe them?

What about science? Do science and religion contradict each other.

Have you ever heard? “He was so sick that his recovery could not be explained by science”. If we pray for a sick friend, we are seeking to improve the probability of good health. Religion could effect science by influencing, or hoping to influence, probability.

Probability is at the intersection of science and religion, and the heart of everything, per Quantum Mechanics. Every thing is a probability, waiting to collapse to certainty. This can only happen if there is an observer.

What exactly is an observer? You are an observer; I  am an observer; God is an observer. Didn’t that science fiction novel point to “all that groks” ( Robert Heinlein’s Stranger In A Strange Land.)?

I realize that an observer needs consciousness. A rock can not be an observer, a person can.

But what really matters is whether an observer can cause a chosen outcome. Is consciousness an impartial catalyst or a decision maker? For miracles to be possible there has to be some indication that prayer can effect luck.

In the New York Times 2/6/07 edition it was reported that before closing its doors, the Princeton lab on ESP determined that the human mind could affect random outcome to the extent of ”2 or 3 flips out of 10,000” Dr. Jahn is quoted as concluding that “thought could bring about changes in many other areas of life — helping to heal disease, for instance, in oneself and others.”

Therefore, at least by a small amount, it appears the prayer can effect outcome. This is a miracle.

Time dilation and dark matter

Maybe time dilation causes a change in the perceived expansion rate of matter v empty space. Gravity which accompanies mass also has the effect of slowing down time from the viewpoint of the mass.

Watching mass and empty space expand (while in a planetary gravity field of the planet),  the empty space would appear to take less time to expand and thus seem like advancing faster?

The expansion rate of the universe would appear to be accelerating

With mass looking  to need more  mass for parity. Thus missing mass would seem to be expected resulting in the invention of dark matter.

Disclaimer/clarification

I have obtained more subjective knowledge of physics and can not say that I still believe all of my previous hypothesis.

Some I still hope to be relevant, but others should be discarded. What should I do about it ?

These posts represent a chronology of my thought discovery and conclusions. If you read from older to newer it shows my mental journey.  Some may still be both original and worthwhile. The reader should decide. The reader should always decide.

I will keep them for now but may at some point decide to the opposite. The metaphysical pots stand up better. It is always possible than someone will read this.

Power free suspended animation.

If a person were to run out of oxygen in a space suit they would die. That is, the brain and body would rot and deteriorate beyond reversal. However if the body was in vacuum rotting would not occur. To rot scavengers or bacteria are required. They are absent in the vacuum of space.

The problem is that to get to vacuum too quickly would cause explosive decompression (rapid expansion) with severe damage. Getting to vacuum too slowly would also be problematic as the rotting would continue in the decreasing residual air pressure.  However a goldilocks (just right) speed of decompression, or entering into vacuum, would leave a body perfectly preserved and capable of reanimation. This would result with storage in the vacuum of space requiring no power regardless of the passage of time.

A seemingly dead person stored in vacuum, if not damaged by explosive decompression, could be suspended indefinitely for a long voyage between stars. (This would be required if time travel is not available.) The problem would be getting the speed of decompression just right, to not spoil or explode. We should also be very careful with any alien bodies found in the vacuum of space as it might be awaiting reanimation.

Time travel could enable star travel

Time travel could enable star travel. Time travel is now claimed to be possible per Ronald Mallett of the University of Connecticut. This is explained in the documentary "How To Build a Time Machine" He believes it is possible to twist time using lasers.

However there are two important limitations. It can only send messages (data) that could not go back to any time earlier than when the time machine is first turned on. These limitations may not block star travel.

Star travel could be done with the help of time dilation. The closer the traveler gets to the speed of light the more time, for the traveler, slows down. This allows the traveler to seem to travel faster than the speed of light. In reality millions of years could pass for an outside observer while only weeks pass for the traveler. The problem is not in the outward journey but in the return to the same epoch. The time machine would solve this problem by allowing traveling back thru the dilated time to the starting point. It would not be necessary to go back beyond the starting point.

As to data only, what would actually be sent if teleportation were perfected? Would the exact atoms have to be sent, or only the information (data), necessary to reconstruct the original.

I wonder whether the time machine could be carried on the starship or if it would have to be kept running near the point of origin.

Quantum gravity from singularity

Could all of the universe be Quantum entangled as a result of the fact that it was once all of the same singularity (which underwent the big bang). There could be a continuing connection where a change in one part of the universe exerts a influence towards similarity in all of the universe.

Could gravity be a result of this?  An influence towards similar location would result in an attempt to be in the same place. Since there is no center of the universe this might manifest as universal attraction or gravity.

Dark energy as backwards gravity

Dark energy continues to be elusive. Perhaps the effect attributed to dark energy is really caused by gravity with an opposite arrow of time. If there are multiple universes do they all have to be facing the same way? Perhaps some have opposite entropy with a corresponding opposite arrow of time.

It could also be that the big crunch (opposite of big bang) has an opposite arrow of time for internal observers. They would see what they think is an expanding universe. In fact we could be living in the big crunch and not realize it.

Either way there could be a bleed thru of negative gravity into our realm, acting like what we expect of dark energy.

Living in the in-between

The universe is thought to have been created as part of the continuing process where matter and antimatter pairs pop into existence and then mutually annihilate each other. (The seething of zero point energy). There is speculation on what stopped this normal annihilation.(in the case of our universe) Maybe it was not stopped but we simply exist in the in-between.

The matter and antimatter pairs do not pop into existence at the exact same point because no two items can occupy the same exact place and time. Therefore there must be at least some small distance between the matter and antimatter. This necessitates some delay before the recombination/mutual extinction.

While the delay may be incredibly short, time could flow at an extremely slower or faster rate inside the matter/antimatter awaiting extinction. Einstein showed that time is dependent on the vantage point of the observer. Therefore this seeming slight delay could, from inside, be long enough for the complete life cycle of an evolving universe. Stars could form, heavy elements created, and life could evolve towards the totality of consciousness.

Therefore all that we are or will become is occurring in the cosmic in-between.

Infinity equals zero

The nature of consciousness suggests that infinity equals zero. Conscious is the perception of "not me". By its nature, conscious strives to maximize this perception.

If the point is reached that all of infinity is perceived, the possibility of "not me " disappears . When “not me” disappears, consciousness disappears. We are then left with nothing or zero.

The highest number would therefore not be “infinity” but “infinity less the plank constant(the smallest unit of energy)".

Accelerated universe expansion

It is believed that particle-antiparticle pairs spontaneously appear, and then cancel each other out. If for any reason the pair is separated before canceling each other out, than what is left is additional matter.

Could the edge of an expanding universe facilitate these particle-antiparticle pair separations by coming in between the pair? This would be the opposite of hawking radiation where a black hole losses particles through a similar process. If particle-antiparticle pair separations increase than the size of the universe would also increase. This would in turn cause the process to accelerate.

The larger the edge of the universe the more particle antiparticle pairs separate and the more mass is added to the universe. The increase in mass expands the universe which would in turn increase the boundary where separations occur. This could contribute to or cause the accelerated expansion of the universe.

Where is the anti-matter?

When the universe was created both matter and anti-matter popped into existence. This is normally followed by mutual annihilation as they recombine and cancel each other out. The fact that our universe still exists gives rise to the question as to what happened to the antimatter.

One possible answer could involve the expansion speed of the accelerating universe. Under the theory known as inflation, it is believed that the universe for a time, expanded faster than the speed of light. The speed of light limitation apparently applies only to matter, but not to empty space itself.

If inflation happened soon enough it could have placed sufficient distance between the matter and anti-matter such that it has not yet destroyed the universe. As we cannot see the antimatter it must be further away than 13.9 billion light years. The universe is 13.9 billion years old and light from the antimatter will therefore take at least another 13.9 billion years to reach us.

The missing anti-matter

It is thought that the universe was created in a chance quantum fluctuation with matter and antimatter separated from nothingness on its way to returning to nothing. (0=(+1) + (-1), where +1 in matter and -1 is antimatter, this has the same value as 1-1=0). This leaves the question as to why we still exist. What happened to the anti-matter that was supposed to end us?

One possibility is that our universe is in the event horizon of a black hole. Inside this, time slows down dramatically. Picture matter and anti-matter spontaneously created and about to cancel each other out. This is not instantaneous. They have to travel the short distance to each other and then interact in a big cancellation explosion.

If time were sufficiently slowed down, there could be time for stars and planets to form and life to evolve. This solves the problem of the missing antimatter. It is there but operating in a different time frame.

This still leaves the question of what created the black hole to begin with. It’s kind of like saying God created the universe but not explaining what created God. However this does not invalidate our quest any more than saying that the big bang created the universe from a singularity, without, explaining what created the singularity.

There is always one step further back that we need to seek as part of our complete understanding.

Another way of looking at reality

We all construct our own reality by way of interpreting limited information into a larger whole. The limited information that is the same for all of us is discoverable through science. The rest is the province of luck, religion, chance, or destiny.

Quantum mechanics tell us that there is an uncertainty to even science and there are probabilities rather than absolutes. In question is the extent to which consciousness affects these probabilities. We know that an observer is necessary to the process but it is less clear to what extent the observer is only a catalyst or is more of a decision maker.

Our religions are not in conflict because they are part of the personal portion of our reality construct. Some reality constructs have religion playing a larger part than chance. Perhaps the catalyst vs. decision maker quandary is part of the individual’s reality construct and the extent to which we cede power to a larger entity.

The morality of alternate universes.

Is there any point in being good if you are bad in an alternate universe? If each possible outcome branches’ out into a new alternate universe what is the point of trying? The answer may be that there is more than just one of each alternate universe.

If each change creates a new universe, it is unlikely that any one change will be local. The universe is so large that it will take many copies before the local area is involved in any change. Therefore you do not have just one good and one bad outcome from every choice. What matters are how many times the better branch is chosen out of a very large number of trials. You may be 99.99999% correct on any outcome branch, 0.11111%, or anywhere in between.

Perhaps there is one top-domain-average-universe in which every possible outcome is a field of unrealized probabilities. This is the unshaped clay that requires conscience to bring order out of chaos.

Where the mind lurks

It has been said that we constantly interpolate our own complete reality from incomplete information. The resulting mind-picture could warp space time in a physical way.(just as matter deforms space time showing the effect of gravity). A digital interpretation of this mind-picture could be stored by the wave vs particle fields of probability that need an observer to collapse to certainty.

Herein lies the physical memory bank required for the mind to have an existence not completely dependent on the body once created.

Computers are programed by strings of on/off referred to as binary. This is the basic machine language that is made easier to manipulate by an operating system . However starting with only the on/off, 1/0 ,wave /particle, much complexity of memory and process is possible .

Could gravity be an effect rather than a force?

The g-force from acceleration is often stated as indistinguishable from gravity.
The universe is expanding at an accelerating rate.
Any connection?

Why a moon colony is important.

Why a moon colony is important.

Question: Where do you test a nuclear rocket engine?

Answer: Not on the earth

Question: How do you get off of the earth without nuclear space ships?

Answer: By using the same inefficient and expensive chemical rockets that took us to the moon.

Conclusion: We cannot move forward with an affordable long haul space program without first establishing a presence on the moon.

P. S.

We may have to adjust a few treaties that stand in the way

Universe separated into 2 parts

The universe can be separated into two parts. Part 1 could be described as the unchanging laws of science. Part 2 can be described as a combination of luck, God, destiny, and magic. There is no conflict between parts 1 and 2; Science and religion.

The conflict can more rightfully be described between religion and luck. Do things just happen or is there a higher power in charge of all.

Quantum mechanics tells us that there are only probabilities. An observer is necessary to collapse fields of possibilities into certainty. What is unclear is the extent to which the observer or consciousness influences the outcome rather than just causing the collapse.

The possibility that consciousness can influence outcomes is what gives part 2 so much potential. It allows miracles to be possible without conflicting with science. It does not make miracles necessary only possible.

The necessity of the observer does argue for the necessity of some kind of universal consciousness.

(See the following as part of my 6/25/11 post: Science, Religion, and the multiverse )

“However there is no reason that there has to be only one reality. There may be multiple realities in what science has come to refer to as the multiverse.

Different outcomes branch off into different universes or realities. There is no reason that realities need to be either completely separate from each other or completely the same. Rather there may be a kind of co-mingling where by realities intersect at many places and part at others.

At church, realities divulge allowing each religion to be true for its believers. Conversely non-believers are not affected by the religions of others having their own realities to insulate them from vengeful gods not theirs.”

The two faces of gravity

Gravity may have has two aspects, micro or local, and macro or distant. Without this duality we are left with the puzzle of the missing mass. That is, on the galactic level there is not enough mass to account for the gravity effect noted. For this reason scientists assumed that dark matter must exist to make up the difference.(extra mass that cannot be seen)

But the need for dark matter disappears if two different processes are involved. On the micro or local level, gravity might be the result of the accelerating expansion of matter (not vacuum). As we are composed of matter we do have any way sense this action, other than from the effect of acceleration. Picture being pushed back in your seat as your car accelerates. You may feel something similar in an elevator.

On the galactic level we have a background that allows us to observe the difference in the rates of the acceleration of vacuum vs. matter.

If vacuum expands less quickly than matter, than matter would appear to be closing together. This is exactly the attraction that effect we expect to see from gravity.

Thus we have the all that we expect from gravity, being pulled to the earth due to effect of acceleration and noting heavenly bodies attract each other due to the relative shrinking of intervening space

Variable rate of expanding universe (fixed)

I need to make a correction to my article “Variable rate of expanding universe” posted 7/26/11. The correction is in the second paragraph first sentence which should have indicated “vacumn”, not “matter’s” expansion rate as greater. From context I was portraying a difference not an agreement. The corrected version follows

Variable rate of expanding universe (corrected )

If matter and vacuum expand at different rates, then we would only be aware of the difference. The rate of expansion of matter would be invisible to us as we and our tools are expanding together. Matter would appear to be coming closer together if vacuum’s expansion rate is slower.

This is in fact what we see on the local level. At the galactic level matter appears to be racing apart, making it look like vacuum expansion rate is greater. As “further away” also means “further back in time” a case could be made that the relative speeds of expansion of vacuum vs matter has not been constant but has changed over the lifetime of the universe.

We notice a difference in the motion of the galaxy that leads us to believe in the existence of missing mass or dark matter. Perhaps there is another explanation.

Gravity is indistinguishable from acceleration. Much has been written about the expanding universe and the fact that the speed of expansion continues to increase. Could gravity be the effect of accelerating expantion? If so it would follow that the strength of gravity has changed with the aging of the universe. This change however may be masked by the invisibility of matter’s rate of expansion as previously mentioned.
